Orhei public transport fares to increase to 6 lei

The Orhei Municipal Council has approved an increase in public transport tariffs, raising the cost of a single trip from 3 to 6 lei, effective October 5. This decision ends several years of subsidized or free transport services in the municipality.

To mitigate the impact, a 50% discount will be maintained for children aged 7 to 10, making their fare 3 lei. The Orhei City Hall stated that the price hike is necessary due to rising maintenance costs and the need to invest in an aging vehicle fleet.

Financial reports indicate that 'Orhei Transport' recorded losses exceeding 3.4 million lei in the first seven months of 2026, with the calculated cost per trip reaching 5.94 lei. Authorities expect the new tariff structure to reduce pressure on the municipal budget, with an estimated savings of approximately 1.7 million lei for 2026.
