Oriental honey buzzards recover at Haringsee bird station

Two weakened Oriental honey buzzard nestlings are recovering at the Owl and Bird of Prey Station (EGS) in Haringsee, Austria. The birds, named Solis and Helios, were discovered near Ernstbrunn in the Korneuburg district.

The first bird was found by a passerby on a fence, appearing exhausted and showing no flight response. Two days later, a second, severely malnourished nestling was found nearby. EGS leader Hans Frey noted that finding such young birds at this time of year is unusual, as many honey buzzards have already begun their migration to Africa.

After being brought together at the station, the two birds responded positively to one another, which has aided their recovery. While experts cannot confirm with absolute certainty if they originated from the same nest, the circumstances strongly suggest they are related.
