Oriente Petrolero and The Strongest draw amid racism allegations
A match between Oriente Petrolero and The Strongest ended in a 1-1 draw at the Ramón Tahuichi Aguilera stadium, but the fixture was overshadowed by post-match confrontations and allegations of racism.
Oriente Petrolero officials accused The Strongest manager, Antonio Carlos Zago, of using discriminatory language toward Bolivian players and allegedly striking a goalkeeper. Zago has denied these claims, stating that he was instead targeted with xenophobic insults regarding his Brazilian nationality during a tunnel altercation. He emphasized his respect for Bolivia, calling it his “second home.”
Following the match, Oriente Petrolero coach Gustavo Florentín noted that while his team lacked clinical finishing to secure a win, the draw remains important for their qualification efforts. Florentín also highlighted the team's ability to react despite dealing with approximately seven injured players.
