Origin of the song 'Lela Vranjanka' revealed

The origins of the legendary song 'Lela Vranjanka', famously performed by Staniša Stošić, have been detailed through the history of its composer, Dragan Toković. Written in the early 1970s, the song was inspired by Jelena Đorđević, a woman from Vranje known for her exceptional beauty.

According to accounts, Toković was captivated by Đorđević during a chance encounter at a gathering in Vranjska Banja. While rumors often suggested a romantic affair, Đorđević clarified that she only met the composer twice in her life and that there was no emotional or romantic relationship between them. The song was a spontaneous creative response to her presence.

Years later, the two crossed paths again in Belgrade at a cafe, where the song was played, but they did not discuss the musical dedication.
