Orihuela: 19-month-old baby dies in private pool drowning

A 19-month-old baby has died following a drowning accident in a private swimming pool in the Entrenaranjos urbanization, located between Torremendo and Los Montesinos in Orihuela, Alicante.

The incident occurred around 11:00 AM on Wednesday. The child was discovered in the pool by their mother, and emergency services provided initial assistance before transferring the infant to the Pediatric ICU at the Hospital General Doctor Balmis in Alicante, where they later passed away.

This tragedy occurs amid a significant rise in water-related fatalities in Spain. According to the National Drowning Report (INA) by the Spanish Federation of Lifesaving and Rescuing (RFESS), 91 people died in aquatic spaces in July alone. This brings the total number of drowning deaths in Spain to 308 between January 1 and July 31, with June and July recording the highest monthly totals of the year.
