Orihuela parent associations demand solutions for school overcrowding
Parent associations (AMPAs) in Orihuela are demanding urgent solutions from the Conselleria de Educación following a crisis caused by the relocation of students from CEIP Virgen de la Puerta. Students were moved to the Nuestra Señora de Monserrate de Molins and Nuestra Señora del Pilar de La Campaneta schools after the original building suffered structural deficiencies for eight years.
Families report that the provisional solution has resulted in collapsed facilities and a lack of resources. While Mayor Pepe Vegara visited the receiving schools to inspect the facilities, parents claim the inspection was only possible because they actively guided him to show the true extent of the overcrowding. The City Council continues to defend technical reports regarding the original building's suitability but has acknowledged the lack of a ‘plan B’ for relocation. The Council has offered to cover bus transportation costs for parents.
