Orihuela to install temporary classrooms at IES Las Espeñetas

The Generalitat Valenciana and the Orihuela City Council have reached an agreement to address the educational crisis at CEIP Virgen de la Puerta. To accommodate the 302 students affected by the closure of their original school building, prefabricated classrooms will be installed on the sports grounds of IES Las Espeñetas.

The plan includes using the Las Espeñetas Park as a fenced recreational area for students and sharing the artificial grass football field through a coordinated schedule between the two institutions. While authorities argue this solution keeps students in their local environment, the measure has faced strong opposition from the Vega Baja Teachers' Assembly.

The long-term goal remains the demolition of the current building and the construction of a new school at the original site. An informative meeting is scheduled for October 20 to maintain dialogue with families.
