Orihuela to restore Los Saladares archaeological site

The Orihuela City Council is launching a project to restore and enhance the Los Saladares archaeological site and its surroundings. The initiative aims to recover one of the most significant protohistoric sites in the Southeast and Levante regions of the Iberian Peninsula.

Pending authorization from the General Directorate of Valencian Cultural Heritage, the project will proceed in the coming months. Once completed, the municipality plans to integrate guided tours of the site into its official cultural offerings.

Matías Ruiz, the Councilor for Historical Heritage, stated that the project will advance the restoration and valuation of the enclave following years of research and conservation work. The efforts include protecting original structures and facilitating public understanding of the site. Previous conservation measures have utilized geotextiles to cover excavated sections and stone layers to safeguard walls.
