Oristano Council Moves to Name Public Space After Fra Piero Casu
Opposition councillors in Oristano have tabled a motion to dedicate a public garden or green area near the San Francesco church and convent to the memory of Fra Piero Casu, a Franciscan friar who died in 1992. The proposal, signed first by councillor Francesco Federico and supported by members of Oristano Democratica, Possibile, Alternativa Sarda – Progressisti Sardegna, Sinistra Futura, and the Partito Democratico, urges the mayor and the municipal executive to begin the naming procedures and to involve the local Franciscan community in selecting the site.
Fra Piero Casu was remembered as a “friar of the people,” known for his work with young people, the sick, detainees and families in difficulty. The motion was deposited on 1 August 2026.
