Oristano council proposes plan to combat social isolation
Opposition councilors in Oristano have presented a motion to address social isolation affecting the elderly, young people, the unemployed, and people with disabilities. The proposal suggests implementing periodic companionship calls, home visits, and assistance with transportation to social hubs.
The motion follows incidents where local police found a 92-year-old woman in distress and other cases where individuals living alone were found deceased after several days. While the municipality has existing programs for non-self-sufficient elderly citizens, the councilors argue that a structural program is needed to support those who are still partially autonomous but at risk of silent isolation.
