Oristano officials demand action on delayed road safety projects
Provincial councilors in Oristano have filed a formal inquiry addressed to President Paolo Pireddu regarding administrative delays that are stalling critical road safety projects. The delays concern the construction of two roundabouts intended to mitigate frequent and serious traffic accidents at high-risk intersections.
The first project, funded as part of an 815,306.31 euro intervention, involves the intersection of SP 10 and SP 11 between Baratili San Pietro and Nurachi. This site is slated for a four-arm roundabout including roadbed reconstruction, drainage improvements, and new signage. The second project targets the intersection of SP 1 and SP 60 between Riola Sardo and San Vero Milis, which will feature a five-arm roundabout, improved public lighting, and new safety devices.
Local representatives noted that both intersections remained sites of accidents during the most recent summer season. The administrative process reportedly stalled in March following requests for additional documentation, including urban planning variations for expropriation areas.
