Orix Buffaloes release six players including Shota Abe and Yuma Tongu
The Orix Buffaloes announced on October 5 that they will not renew the contracts of six players for the upcoming season. The released players include Shota Abe (pitcher), Yuma Tongu (catcher), Kazuya Kazuki (infielder), Takehi Ashida (pitcher), Kyoichiro Murakami (catcher), and Hiroto Suga (pitcher).
Among those released, Yuma Tongu, who previously won the batting title in 2023, is expected to be offered a developmental contract as he continues rehabilitation following right knee surgery. Shota Abe, who contributed significantly to the team's championship wins, is currently undecided regarding his future and is considering whether to continue his professional career.
Infielder Kazuya Kazuki has expressed his intention to retire from professional baseball, while the other released players—Ashida, Murakami, and Suga—have indicated their desire to continue playing.
