Orizaba and Ixtaczoquitlán face flooding and landslides from heavy rains
Heavy rainfall and runoff from high-altitude areas have caused flooding, landslides, and traffic disruptions in the metropolitan area of Orizaba and Ixtaczoquitlán, Veracruz.
In Orizaba and Ixtaczoquitlán, flooding has submerged streets, stalled vehicle engines, and caused a landslide in the Potrerillo II area due to softening ground. Significant water accumulation was reported in several sectors, including Ojo de Agua and Valle Alegre, complicating travel for motorists and motorcyclists.
Authorities are monitoring the Blanco River basin, including Maltrata, Nogales, Ciudad Mendoza, and Río Blanco, due to the risk of sudden river rises and the movement of mud, stones, and debris. The overflow of the La Encrucijada ravine in Puebla has contributed to the risk, sending material toward the river basin and affecting the 150-D highway. CAPUFE reported intermittent traffic on the Mexico-Veracruz highway near the Acatzingo-Mendoza stretch due to water and mud on the road.
