Orizaba faces cultural debate over Samhain event

A debate has emerged in Veracruz regarding the promotion of cultural traditions in 'Pueblos Mágicos'. The municipality of Orizaba has announced 'Samhain Casavegas 2026' for October 30 and 31, featuring activities such as zombie themes, magic potions, and horror spectacles.

Officials from the Secretaría de Cultura have expressed opposition to the focus on Samhain, which is a Celtic precursor to Halloween. They argue that these designated magical towns should prioritize Mexican and Veracruzian traditions, such as Día de Muertos, to showcase the country's unique cultural identity to the world.
