Orizaba residents report CFE impersonation fraud attempts
Residents and merchants in Orizaba have raised alarms regarding a potential fraud scheme involving individuals impersonating employees of the Comisión Federal de Electricidad (CFE).
According to citizen reports, a man and a woman—one wearing a green vest and the other a yellow helmet—have been visiting homes and businesses to inspect electricity meters. They allegedly claim to find irregularities in the power supply to pressure victims into paying fees. In one reported instance, after being unable to prove a debt existed, the individuals reportedly demanded approximately 3,000 pesos to prevent a service disconnection.
The suspects are said to be traveling in an unmarked white van. While these accounts remain citizen testimonies without official criminal confirmation, the CFE has issued general warnings advising users to always request identification, verify work orders, and never provide cash payments to visitors. Suspicious activity can be reported via the 071 service line.
