Orizuru Tower announces 10th anniversary projects in Hiroshima

Orizuru Tower, a landmark in Hiroshima, has announced a new project to mark its 10th anniversary and prepare for the 100th anniversary of the end of World War II in 2045.

A major renovation of the tower's entrance is planned for completion around spring 2028. The project aims to improve accessibility from Peace Memorial Park, creating a more inviting space that allows visitors to transition easily to the rooftop observatory.

In collaboration with printing company Nakamoto Honten, the tower will introduce eco-friendly origami made from 100% domestic bamboo paper to address environmental issues related to abandoned bamboo forests. Additionally, the tower will hold events to transition the approximately 1.3 million paper cranes currently housed in the ‘Orizuru Wall’ to new uses, including a ceremony to honor the wishes for peace contained within them.
