Orkla reduces mackerel content in Stabbur-Makrell products

Orkla Foods is reducing the mackerel content in its popular Stabbur-Makrell canned products. The company cited pressure on mackerel stocks, which has led to reduced quotas, lower raw material availability, and significantly higher commodity prices.

Three specific products will see a reduction in fish content: • Stabbur-Makrell Filet 170g: decreasing from 71% to 60% fish. • Stabbur-Makrell Filet 110g: decreasing from 60% to 55% fish. • Stabbur-Makrell Grovhakket 110g: decreasing from 60% to 55% fish.

Kristoffer Vikebak, communications manager at Orkla Foods, stated that the recipe has been adjusted to preserve flavor as much as possible. The company will clearly mark the fish percentage on the front of the packaging to remain transparent with consumers. Additionally, Orkla is launching two new smaller 80g varieties with a 50% fish content.
