Orlandino Greco proposes potential de-merger of Corigliano-Rossano and Casali del Manco
Former regional councilor Orlandino Greco has reopened the debate regarding the potential de-merger of the municipalities of Corigliano-Rossano and Casali del Manco in Italy.
Greco argues that the concept of “sfusione” (de-merger) should not be treated as a taboo. He suggests that while municipal mergers were intended to improve administrative efficiency and service organization, the actual results must be measured against real-world outcomes over time.
Reflecting on his opposition to the original merger in 2017, Greco noted that Corigliano-Rossano and Casali del Manco remain highly distinct identities. He advocates for the political and institutional courage to evaluate whether the current merger model continues to serve the community or if formal regulatory procedures should be used to allow the municipalities to separate.
