Orlando Magic appoint Sean Sweeney as new head coach

Sean Sweeney has been named the new head coach of the Orlando Magic. Formerly an assistant coach for the San Antonio Spurs under Mitch Johnson and Gregg Popovich, Sweeney brings extensive experience from roles with the Brooklyn Nets, Milwaukee Bucks, Detroit Pistons, and Dallas Mavericks.

Sweeney is tasked with leading the Magic franchise past its recent stagnation and helping the team achieve postseason success, specifically aiming to win a playoff series for the first time since 2010. His background as a defensive specialist and his experience assisting teams that reached the NBA Finals are seen as key assets in establishing a new culture and energy for the roster, which includes star player Paolo Banchero.
