Orlando Ortiz’s Legacy Celebrated at Prosa-ismos Book Launch in Mexico
On July 30, the Secretaría de Cultura of the Mexican government and the Instituto Nacional de Bellas Artes y Literatura (INBAL) presented the anthology *Prosa-ismos* at the Centro de Creación Literaria Xavier Villaurrutia. The volume, published by the Fondo Editorial Tamaulipas and coordinated by Bibiana Camacho, gathers a wide range of Ortiz’s texts that move between novel, short story, essay, travel chronicle, graphic novel and comic, showcasing his versatility and humor.
Speakers included Minerva Reynosa Álvarez, national coordinator of literature; novelist Ana Clavel; historian María del Carmen Raquel Galicia Patiño; and Héctor Romero Lecanda, director of the Instituto Tamaulipeco para la Cultura y las Artes. They highlighted Ortiz’s role as a mentor who trained generations of writers through workshops across the country, and emphasized the book’s importance for rediscovering a key figure of Tamaulipas’ literary heritage.
