Orlando Pirates set sights on defending Betway Premiership title

After ending a 14‑year wait by winning the Betway Premiership last season, Orlando Pirates are preparing to defend the crown this campaign. Coach Abdeslam Ouaddou will lead the side as they also compete in the CAF Champions League.

Former captain Happy Jele urged supporters not to put excessive pressure on the team, noting the physical and mental demands of juggling league, cup and continental fixtures and the extensive travel involved. He said, “Let’s not put much pressure; we just need to compete on the highest level.”

The club’s recent recruitment includes 20‑year‑old left‑back Neo Rapoo, who joined from Siwelele after stints with SuperSport United. Rapoo made his debut at the Orlando Amstel Arena, saying, “I just told myself to keep it simple and enjoy the moment,” and praised the familiar environment and senior teammates for easing his transition.
