Orlando Pirates' youth sales top R150 million as Mofokeng joins Belgian club

Orlando Pirates have earned more than R150 million from the transfers of three academy graduates in the past year. Relebohile Mofokeng moved to Belgian Pro League side Royale Union Saint‑Gilloise in a deal estimated at €3.5‑4 million (about R70‑80 million), becoming one of the largest direct PSL‑to‑Europe sales. Defender Mbekezeli Mbokazi signed with MLS club Chicago Fire for roughly $3 million (around R52 million), while forward Mohau Nkota joined Saudi Pro League side Al‑Ettifaq in a transfer valued at approximately R52 million.

The club later disclosed that Mofokeng had deliberately delayed a possible European move in 2025 to help Orlando Pirates chase the league title, citing loyalty and a desire to leave a legacy before moving abroad. His eventual transfer was confirmed after the season, highlighting both his on‑field contributions and the club’s growing reputation for developing talent.
