ORLEN and Port of Gdynia partner on bioLNG shipping fuels

ORLEN and the Port of Gdynia Authority have signed an agreement to develop the use of LNG and bioLNG as marine vessel fuels. The partnership aims to assess market demand, bunkering potential, and the infrastructure, operational, and regulatory requirements necessary to support these services along the Polish coast.

A key focus of the cooperation includes evaluating waterside bunkering capabilities, specifically ship-to-ship operations where fuel is transferred directly from a bunker vessel to a ship in port. This initiative aligns with the FuelEU Maritime regulations, which will gradually tighten emission requirements for ships starting in 2025.

ORLEN Vice President of Operations Robert Soszyński stated that the company aims to be a partner in the energy transition by helping to create the infrastructure and market conditions needed for alternative marine fuels to grow in Poland and the surrounding region. The strategy positions gas and bioLNG as critical components for decarbonizing heavy-duty maritime and road transport.
