Orlen starts building 75‑million‑zloty hydrogen hub in Szczecin

Polish oil refiner Orlen is commencing construction of a hydrogen production hub in the port city of Szczecin. The project, valued at PLN 75 million, includes a 5 MW electrolyser, hydrogen storage and loading infrastructure, and is designed to produce at least 90 kg of automotive‑grade hydrogen per hour – roughly 2,160 kg per day at full capacity. Operational service is targeted for the 2027/28 window.

The hub is part of Orlen’s broader strategy to develop a national hydrogen network and will receive €62 million in non‑repayable EU funding under the “Clean Cities – Hydrogen Mobility in Poland” programme. Construction will be carried out by Torpol Oil & Gas under an EPC contract, reinforcing the contractor’s expansion into advanced energy infrastructure. The facility is intended to supply hydrogen for public transport, private vehicles and industrial users, contributing to Poland’s decarbonisation and energy‑security goals.
