Ormea hosts event on Alta Val Tanaro historical stone structures

As part of the 14th Planet Earth Week, an event focused on the historical stone structures of the Alta Val Tanaro will take place in Ormea on October 3, 2026. The program explores ancient dry stone constructions, known as ‘caselle’, as well as historical lime kilns and ice houses used for snow and ice preservation before modern refrigeration.

Experts will discuss the ice trade in the Ligurian hinterland and the specific ice house at Ponte di Nava. The event also includes presentations on the architectural evolution of dry stone masonry and the census of artificial cavities in the territory.
