Ornamental shrubs offer extended seasonal flowering
Various ornamental shrubs offer extended blooming periods for gardeners. Winter jasmine (Hamamelis) is noted for its ability to produce fragrant, pink flowers on bare branches as early as winter, lasting into spring. It is a hardy option for gardens, thriving in sunny or semi-shaded locations with well-drained, nutrient-rich soil.
Crape myrtle (Lagerstroemia indica), native to China and Korea, is valued for its exceptionally long flowering season. Under optimal conditions, it can bloom for up to 90 days, from late July through September or October. The plant requires significant sunlight and warmth to achieve its full flowering potential, with flower colors ranging from pale pink to bright red, purple, or white.
