Orogho community disputes Seplat Energy oil well ownership
The Association of Orogho Community Council of Representatives in Edo State has called for government intervention regarding a dispute over oil wells allegedly ceded to neighboring communities in Delta State by Seplat Energy Plc.
The Orogho community, located in the Orhionmwon Local Government Area, claims that Seplat has transferred six oil wells belonging to them to the Boborokun and Okunu communities in Delta State. The community warned that they would resist the proposed drilling of Well 5, which would bring the total number of disputed wells to seven.
According to the council, the dispute dates back to 2013 when Seplat took over facilities from the Shell Petroleum Development Company. The community asserts that coordinates from the Edo State Geographic Information System support their claim to the wells. They have urged the Edo State government and regulatory authorities to resolve the matter, stating they are not opposed to operations but demand their rights and entitlements be respected.
