Orotina investigation launched after 12-year-old boy is shot dead

A judicial investigation is underway following the fatal shooting of a 12-year-old boy in Mastate, Orotina. The victim had been reported missing by his parents since August 10, five days prior to the incident.

The attack occurred late on a Friday or Saturday night, according to varying reports, while the minor was traveling on a motorcycle. Witnesses indicated that several individuals on two other motorcycles approached the victim and opened fire before fleeing the scene. Emergency responders found the child with multiple gunshot wounds to the head, torso, arms, and back.

Authorities have located four men in Caldera de Esparza during a police operation, seizing a firearm, a less-lethal weapon, and a knife. There are conflicting reports regarding the legal status of these individuals; while some sources state all four are suspects, others indicate only two have been formally apprehended. The Organismo de Investigación Judicial (OIJ) is working to determine the motive and whether the child was the specific target of the attack.
