Orquestra Clássica da Madeira performs Baroque concert
The Orquestra Clássica da Madeira performed a concert dedicated to the Baroque period at the Salão Nobre of the Assembleia Legislativa da Madeira. The event was conducted and curated by English violinist Adrian Butterfield, marking his first appearance with the orchestra.
The program featured works by Johann Sebastian Bach, Antonio Vivaldi, Jean-Philippe Rameau, Jean-Marie Leclair, and Georg Friedrich Haendel. The performance was part of the ‘Parlamento Mais Próximo’ initiative, a protocol between the Madeira Legislative Assembly and the Associação Notas e Sinfonias Atlânticas.
During preparations, the orchestra shared materials regarding the 12 Concertos Grossos by Madeirense Baroque composer António Pereira da Costa with Butterfield. These works, which were recovered and edited in 2019 by the Conservatório Escola das Artes da Madeira, highlight the historical musical capacity of the region in relation to central European styles.
