Giuseppe Conte leads Elly Schlein in center-left primary poll

A recent poll conducted by Only numbers for Porta a porta indicates that Giuseppe Conte would win a center-left primary against Elly Schlein. According to the survey, 38.8% of broad field voters prefer the Movimento 5 Stelle president, while Schlein holds 24.7% of the potential votes. Silvia Salis, the mayor of Genoa, follows in third place with 19.6%.

Within specific party demographics, Conte receives significant support from the M5S (79%) and Avs (35%), while Schlein maintains 34.9% of Democratic Party (PD) voters. Regarding the inclusion of Italia Viva in the progressive camp, 51.8% of broad field voters are in favor, though support is notably lower among M5S members.

In response to Conte's demand for primaries, some factions within the Democratic Party are considering alternative leadership options to avoid a direct confrontation. Roberto Gualtieri, the mayor of Rome, has been mentioned as a potential candidate to lead the PD. Meanwhile, Gaetano Manfredi has expressed a preference for avoiding primary elections altogether, and Massimo D'Alema has denied rumors of intentions to form a 'party of mayors'.
