Orta Nova commemorates Mario Frasca, killed in Afghanistan

The community of Orta Nova held a public ceremony to mark the 15th anniversary of the death of Mario Frasca, an Italian Army master corporal who was killed on September 23, 2011, in Herat, Afghanistan, during an international mission.

Italian Defense Minister Guido Crosetto sent a letter to the Frasca family, stating that the soldier’s name “will continue to be part of Italy’s history and the memory of our armed forces.” Crosetto emphasized the importance of teaching younger generations about the individuals behind the concept of defense.

During the commemoration, Vincenzo Frasca, the brother of the deceased, renewed the family’s request to the Italian government. They are seeking official recognition for Italian military personnel killed in peacekeeping missions as victims of international terrorism, as well as the awarding of gold medals for military and civil valor. Mario Frasca is currently recognized as a victim of duty and a veteran of peacekeeping missions.
