Orte commuters demand action over regional train overcrowding
Commuter committees in Orte are raising urgent alarms regarding critical overcrowding on regional trains traveling between the Tuscia area and Rome. The issue primarily affects workers and students during afternoon peak hours, particularly between 14:20 and 18:00.
Despite the introduction of some new rolling stock with more seating, many services—such as the regional train to Foligno—remain at maximum capacity with high numbers of standing passengers. In some instances, the pressure from overcrowding has required intervention from the Polfer (Railway Police) to ensure trains can continue their journeys.
To mitigate the crisis, the Orte and Teverina Commuter Committees have proposed restoring the regional train 4530 to the 'direttissima' line. They argue that moving this service from the slow line back to the direct route would better distribute passengers across available trains, improve safety, and reduce travel times to Viterbo by approximately 30 to 35 minutes.
