Orthodontist Lorenzo Bartolommei discusses technology in adolescent dental care

Orthodontist Lorenzo Bartolommei has highlighted how new technologies are improving patient engagement, particularly among adolescents, during orthodontic treatments. Speaking at an event in Naples organized by Align Technology, the Società Italiana di Ortodonzia (SIDO), and the Università della Campania Luigi Vanvitelli, Bartolommei noted that successful treatment requires strong synergy between the doctor and the patient.

Modern tools, such as 3D oral scanning, are replacing traditional, uncomfortable impression materials. These digital scans allow patients to see an immediate 3D reproduction of their mouths, making them more aware of both aesthetic and functional issues. This visual approach helps increase adolescent participation and awareness regarding their oral health. Bartolommei also warned that untreated malocclusion can lead to long-term consequences for general health, emphasizing the importance of timely intervention.
