Saint Anne relics to arrive in Romania for the first time

The relics of Saint Anne, mother of the Virgin Mary and grandmother of Jesus Christ, will be brought to Romania for the first time. The sacred relics, originating from the Kutlumuș Monastery on Mount Athos, are scheduled to arrive in Bucharest between September 5 and September 10, 2026.

A delegation of five monks from Mount Athos will escort the reliquary, which is expected to arrive at Henri Coandă International Airport around 15:00 on September 5. The relics will be housed at the Saint George-New Church in central Bucharest, often referred to as ‘Km Zero’. The event is held with the blessing of Patriarch Daniel and the approval of the Holy Community of Mount Athos.

During the visit, the church will be open daily for pilgrims, with access potentially permitted at night to accommodate crowds. The event is dedicated to the memory of the Holy Brâncoveanu Martyrs and Saint Maria Brâncoveanu.
