Orthodox Church commemorates Holy Martyrs Minodora, Mitrodora, and Nimfodora
The Serbian Orthodox Church and its believers are observing the feast day of the Holy Martyrs Minodora, Mitrodora, and Nimfodora. According to religious tradition, the three sisters from Vitinia lived a life of prayer and fasting in the desert, gaining a reputation for healing the sick.
Following their refusal to renounce their faith despite offers of wealth and status from Prince Fonton, the sisters were subjected to torture. Minodora was killed first, and when her sisters refused to abandon Christ, they were also executed. Tradition states that a lightning bolt struck and killed the prince and his soldiers immediately following the martyrdom.
In folk tradition, this day is marked by the belief that individuals should remain gentle with those close to them and avoid all forms of conflict.
