Orthodox Church commemorates various saints and religious figures
The Orthodox Church observes several significant religious commemorations throughout late October. On October 23, the Church honors Saint James the Brother of God, the first Bishop of Jerusalem and author of the first Divine Liturgy. Tradition identifies him as the brother of Jesus, though interpretations of this relationship vary among different Christian denominations.
On October 24, the commemorations include Saint Arethas the Great Martyr and the martyrs of Najran, who were persecuted in the 6th century in what is now Saudi Arabia, and Saint Sebastian, a 1st-century martyr from Phrygia. In Greece, religious services, including the procession of the Epitaphios of Saint Demetrios, are held in preparation for his major feast day.
On October 25, the Church honors Saint Tabitha, Saint Chrysanthe, and Saint Chrysaphius. Additionally, October 25 is recognized as World Breast Cancer Awareness Day, emphasizing the importance of early detection, regular screenings, and healthy lifestyle choices to improve survival rates.
