Saint Cyprian and Saint Justina commemorated on October 2

The Orthodox Church commemorates the feast day of Saint Cyprian, Bishop of Carthage, and Saint Justina on October 2.

According to ecclesiastical tradition, Cyprian was a philosopher and practitioner of magic in Antioch during the 3rd century. His life changed after failing to use magic to influence Justina, a Christian woman, due to her steadfast faith. This encounter led Cyprian to renounce his previous practices, convert to Christianity, and eventually serve as a bishop. Both saints were later martyred by decapitation during Roman persecutions.

In popular religious tradition, Saint Cyprian is often invoked for protection against sorcery and evil influences. The feast day also coincides with the International Day of Non-Violence and World Bird Day.
