Orthodox Church marks feast days of Saints Michael of Synada and Simeon the Wonderworker

The Eastern Orthodox calendar observes the memorial of Saint Michael, Bishop of Synada, on May 23. Michael lived during the reign of Emperor Leo Armenian, came from a noble family in Phrygia, studied in Constantinople, and later served as bishop, defending icon veneration against imperial persecution. He was imprisoned for his stance and is venerated for his ascetic life and steadfast faith.

On May 24 the Church commemorates Saint Simeon the Wonderworker. Simeon was born in Antioch of Syria in the era of Emperor Justin II, survived a devastating earthquake that killed his father, and entered monastic life on Mount Selukeia. Renowned for his miracles, prophetic gifts, and healing abilities, he spent forty‑five years in ascetic solitude before his repose in 590 AD. Both saints are honored today with liturgical services and prayers.
