Orthodox Churches Celebrate Saint Akilina, Protector of Children, on June 26

Saint Akilina was a 12‑year‑old Christian girl from Salona (modern‑day Solin) in the late 3rd century. Arrested during Diocletian’s persecution, she preached openly, rejected offers of wealth, endured brutal torture, was miraculously healed by an angel, and was beheaded in 293 AD. She is venerated as a martyr and a symbol of steadfast faith.

The Orthodox calendar marks June 26 as her feast day, celebrated as a day of “purity of soul” and protection for children, the innocent and those suffering injustice. Believers are advised to avoid heavy work, focus on family, help children, and recite a traditional prayer invoking her intercession for peace and protection.
