Orthodox Jewish families migrate from New York to Florida
A growing number of Orthodox Jewish families are relocating from New York to Florida, citing rising antisemitism and high housing costs as primary drivers. In Glades County, the newly opened Lakefront Estates, a $300 million development, has become a focal point for this migration. The community is designed to support Orthodox life, featuring a synagogue, yeshiva, and kosher supermarket.
Residents reported that hate crimes in New York City have increased by nearly 16% since last year, creating an environment they feel is no longer safe or welcoming. Additionally, Florida’s policy of providing vouchers for private school tuition has served as a financial incentive for families moving south.
In South Florida, particularly around Miami-Dade County, the Jewish population remains significant, with approximately 130,000 Jewish residents. The region continues to serve as a major hub for Jewish life, offering extensive religious and cultural infrastructure.
