October 15 observances include Saint Lucian and international awareness days

October 15 marks several religious and international observances. The Orthodox Church commemorates Saint Lucian, a priest of the Church of Antioch originally from Samosata, Syria. Known for his theological scholarship and work on biblical translations, Lucian was martyred in Nicomedia during the persecutions of Emperor Diocletian.

On an international level, October 15 is recognized as White Cane Safety Day, aimed at promoting independence and awareness for individuals with visual impairments. Additionally, Global Handwashing Day is observed to highlight the importance of hygiene in preventing infectious diseases, a movement supported by the United Nations and various private sector partners.
