Orthodox Metropolitans lead liturgical services in Symi and Ierapetra
On Sunday, September 27, 2026, Orthodox religious services were held in different regions of Greece to mark the first Sunday of Luke.
At the Holy Panormitis Monastery in Symi, Metropolitan Chrysostomos of Symi, Thilos, Chalki, and Kastellorizo presided over the Orthros and Divine Liturgy. During his sermon, he reflected on the Gospel passage regarding the calling of the first four disciples and the miracle of the abundant catch at the Sea of Galilee. He emphasized the virtues of faith, simplicity of heart, obedience, and readiness required to respond to a divine calling.
In Ierapetra, Metropolitan Kyrillos of Ierapetra and Sitia led the services at the Holy Parish Church of Panagia Eleousa. His sermon also addressed the Gospel themes of the miraculous catch and the disciples' immediate response to Christ. He highlighted the importance of absolute trust and abandoning personal will to follow divine guidance. Following the liturgy, memorial services were held for several deceased members of the community.
