Orthodox religious services held across Greece

Various Orthodox religious services and commemorative events took place across Greece in early August 2026.

Metropolitan Ignatios of Demetrias and Almou served at the Holy Dormition of the Theotokos in Exeinoúpoli, organizing cultural and musical events as part of the "August Akathists." He emphasized the importance of faith, prayer, and fasting, noting that "the Virgin Mary knows how to listen" and provides solace to the human soul.

In Veria, Metropolitan Pantelaimon led a Great Akathist service at the Panagia Soumeliotissa shrine in Vermio. The service highlighted the spiritual connection of the Pontian people to the miraculous icon of the Virgin Mary, which now resides in the Vermio mountains.

Additionally, Metropolitan Kyrillos of Ierapytni and Sitia presided over a Divine Liturgy at the Holy Parish Church of the Annunciation of the Theotokos in Sitia, focusing on the biblical themes of healing through faith.
