Orthodox traditions commemorate Saints Chariton of Kosovo and Chariton the Confessor

Religious commemorations focus on two distinct figures named Saint Chariton within the Orthodox tradition.

One account details the life of Saint Chariton of Kosovo, a Serbian martyr born in 1960. After experiencing early hardship and serving in the war in Croatia, he entered monastic life under the guidance of Elder Ilija. He was killed by criminals in Prizren in June 1999, and his remains were discovered in August 2000.

Another tradition honors Saint Chariton the Confessor, an ancient figure from Iconium. Following the persecution of Christians under Emperor Aurelian, he refused to worship idols and was subjected to torture. He later established several monastic communities in the desert regions of Pharan and Jericho, contributing significantly to the development of monastic life and the composition of monastic rules.
