Orthopedic experts advise on managing rotator cuff tears and shoulder pain
Orthopedic specialists are highlighting the distinction between common shoulder stiffness and rotator cuff tears. Rotator cuff tears involve a rupture in the tendons within the shoulder, which often prevents individuals from lifting their arms independently or causes pain when twisting movements, such as turning a doorknob, are performed.
Unlike general stiffness or frozen shoulder, rotator cuff tears rarely heal naturally and can worsen if left untreated. To manage pain and maintain mobility, experts recommend simple daily exercises, such as scapular release and arm swinging movements, to alleviate discomfort and improve range of motion.
However, medical professionals caution that excessive stretching can also lead to injury. In some cases, over-stretching to increase flexibility can cause inflammation if the supporting muscles are unable to keep pace with the increased range of motion. Individuals experiencing persistent shoulder pain are advised to consult specialists rather than increasing exercise intensity on their own.
