Ortigia faces ongoing water shortages and pressure issues

The district of Ortigia is facing a prolonged water crisis characterized by significant service disruptions and low pressure. A major leak occurred on the line connecting the Dammusi well field to the Teracati reservoir, which serves both Ortigia and the Borgata area. This leak reduced the flow rate to the reservoir, necessitating temporary water rationing by the utility company, Aretusacque, to prevent the reservoir from emptying.

Despite expectations that service would normalize by September 23, residents and businesses continue to report total water outages or extremely low pressure. A survey conducted by the Comitato Ortigia Cittadinanza Resistente indicates that approximately 90 percent of respondents are experiencing these issues. The committee is calling on Aretusacque to provide transparent updates on repair progress, realistic timelines for full restoration, and immediate measures to support affected users.
