Ortigia water pressure improves but service not fully restored

The citizen committee monitoring the water crisis in Ortigia, Sicily, reported that a survey conducted on 20 July showed a drop in negative responses about water pressure to about 26 % of residents, an improvement from earlier measurements. A follow‑up survey on 21 July indicated a slight regression, with negative reports rising to roughly 31.9 %.

Both surveys confirm that the problem remains concentrated in the island’s inner and higher zones (Zone 2). Committee spokesman Davide Biondini noted that pressure is generally better in the early morning but declines later in the day as consumption rises in households, restaurants, bars and hotels, especially affecting upper‑floor taps. The committee continues to send detailed maps of remaining problem areas to water provider Aretusacque and urges coordinated action to achieve full normalization of the service.
