Sassuolo mayor orders 9 pm curfew for city minimarkets
The municipality of Sassuolo issued ordinance No. 165, effective 19 June to 18 July, requiring minimarkets and small neighbourhood food shops under 250 m² to close their doors at 21:00 and reopen at 06:00. Mayor Matteo Mesini said the measure is “a concrete step to curb urban decay” and aims to prevent late‑night alcohol sales that have been linked to noise, vandalism and litter.
The ordinance is part of a broader summer‑time plan that includes extra street‑cleaning with high‑pressure water jets, a dedicated neighbourhood sweeper, concealed waste‑bin containers, reinforced police patrols and an upcoming upgrade of city video‑surveillance. Bars, restaurants and licensed premises are exempt and may continue to operate normally.
The goal is to protect residents’ peace, preserve the historic centre’s decor and improve overall safety during the tourist season.
