Oruam granted habeas corpus to respond to criminal case in freedom
The 8th Criminal Chamber of the Rio de Janeiro Court of Justice (TJRJ) unanimously granted habeas corpus to the rapper Oruam (Mauro Davi dos Santos Nepomuceno), allowing him to respond to legal proceedings in freedom. With this decision, the artist is no longer considered a fugitive.
Oruam is a defendant in a case investigating a suspected money laundering scheme linked to the Comando Vermelho (CV) criminal organization. The investigation alleges that a family nucleus, including Oruam, his brother Lucas Nepomuceno, and his mother Márcia Nepomuceno, acted as intermediaries and administrators of illicit funds. The case also involves his father, Márcio Santos Nepomuceno (known as Marcinho VP), a prominent figure in the CV.
The rapper had been considered a fugitive since February 2026 following the revocation of previous precautionary measures related to his electronic monitoring ankle bracelet. While the habeas corpus revokes the preventive detention, it does not end the criminal action. Oruam remains subject to other precautionary measures, including monthly court appearances and restrictions on leaving the state of Rio de Janeiro for more than 30 days.
Following the court's decision, Oruam caused controversy by appearing in a live TikTok broadcast where he was seen removing his electronic ankle bracelet with a screwdriver. His defense team has stated their next objective is to seek the dismissal of the criminal charges, arguing that the case is based on illicit evidence.
