Çorum hosts workshop on soil and sustainable agriculture

A workshop titled “Soil and Sustainable Agriculture from the Perspective of Climate Change” was held at Hitit University in Çorum, Turkey. The event, organized by the Hitit University Sustainability Office, brought together academics, local officials, and representatives from the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry.

Dr. Bülent Kahraman Çolakoğlu, Head of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry Education and Publication Department, discussed efforts to improve soil health and productivity. He highlighted a previous initiative conducted in collaboration with Turkish Coal Enterprises (TKİ), which utilized 30,000 liters of humic acid across 40 provinces and 5,000 decares of land. According to Çolakoğlu, this natural organic compound helped improve soil structure and increased crop yields by an average of 30 percent.

The program aims to expand this year by utilizing 50,000 liters of humic acid to support farmers and improve soil quality through scientific methods, focusing on increasing the amount of product obtained from a single unit of land.
